Oct, 2009: I/ITSEC Post-Graduate Scholarship SCHOLARSHIP: Congratulations to Ms. Sallie Weaver, recipient of the I/ITSEC Post-Graduate Scholarship. Sep, 2009: Award Winners Jason Kelly, a junior at UCF, majoring in Psychology and Journalism is this fall’s winner of the India Program Fellowship. Kelly has served on the executive boards of the Caribbean Students Association and the Dutch Caribbean Student Association at UCF, and he remains active in the leadership of Central Florida’s growing Caribbean-American community. Upon graduation, he plans to pursue a Ph.D. in psychology. He intends to focus his research on the psychology behind European colonialism and imperialism. Established in connection with The India Program at UCF, the India Program Fellowship is sponsored by The Anil and Chitra Deshpande India Program Endowed Fund, the UCF Global Perspectives Office and the Global Connections Foundation. Jul, 2009: National Scholarship Sallie J. Weaver, M.S recently won the following national scholarships: Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference Doctoral Scholarship (April, 2009). National Training and Simulation Association (NTSA). Jul, 2009: Graduate Fellowship Leslie W. Joyce and Paul W. Thayer Graduate Fellowship in I-O Psychology (March, 2009). Jun, 2009: National Scholarships Sallie Weaver (PhD) was a recent recipient of two national scholarships: In April, she was awarded the National Training and Simulation Association's (NTSA) Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference Doctoral Scholarship. In March, she was awarded the Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology's Leslie W. Joyce and Paul W. Thayer Graduate Fellowship in I-O Psychology Jun, 2009: Poster Award Jessica Wildman, a third year doctoral student in the Industrial/Organizational Psychology PhD, collaborated with Drs Steve Fiore and Eduardo Salas and won the best poster award at the 2009 Fourth Annual INGRoup Conference in Colorado. Her poster is entitled: Toward Measurement of Trust and Distrust: Separate Constructs or Ends of a Continuum Sep, 2008: Psychology Graduate Highlight Sally Stader (Applied Experimental & Human Factors PhD student) was a co-winner of the Best Graduate Paper Award at the 2008 Florida Student Conference on Human Factors and Applied Psychology held at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Her paper was titled “Ergonomic Evaluation of a General Aviation Maintenance Task: Covering an Aircraft Wing”. Jul, 2008: Clinical Students Win 2008 FPA Poster Competition Clinical Ph.D. students Diana Orem and Betsy Wack each won a cash prize for first and second place for poster presentations at the 2008 Florida Psychological Association research conference.

Oct, 2009: Large Class Faculty Fellows Pam Thomas was one of two University faculty members selected as Large Class Faculty Fellows by the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning. Pam was selected along with Alisha Jonowsky from Psychology. They will provide support for those who teach large classes (defined as >100 students) through workshops, consultations, and by facilitating a teaching circle. Teaching Circles meet bi-monthly in the Faculty Center. Meetings include the sharing of ideas and conducting discussions of the literature on how to be successful with large class instruction. Jan, 2009: Appointment Deborah C. Beidel was appointed as an Advisor to the Childhood Anxiety Disorders Workgroup for the upcoming revision of the American Psychiatirc Associatins's "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - Fifth Edition." Nov, 2008: Millionaires Club Congrats to Eduardo Salas, for being inducted into the Millionaires club. A recognized achievement for reasearch in his field of Psychology. The sole criteria for entrée into the exclusive order is external sponsored research funding of $1 million or more during a given fiscal year. Mar, 2008: Dr. Salas receives MURI Grant Professor Eduardo Salas of the Department of Psychology, together with researchers from UCF Institute for Simulation and Training, Harvard University, University of Maryland, Columbia University, George Mason University, and Naval Postgraduate School, recently received a coveted MURI (Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative) grant funded by the US Army for the Fiscal Year 2008. The grant was awarded to support research aiming at understanding cultural influences on basic psychological and social processes in negotiations and collaborations across a wide range of cultures. Mar, 2008: Dr. Wang elected as President of Psi Chi Dr. Alvin Wang, Professor at the Department of Psychology and Dean of the Burnett Honors College, was recently elected to be the 2008 President-Elect of Psi Chi (the National Honors Society in Psychology). Further details can be found here Nov, 2007: Dr. Salas Appointed to National Academy of Sciences Dr. Ed Salas was appointed to one of the most influential medical scientific agencies, the Institute of Medicine. This is part of the National Academy of Sciences and is a quite an honor. Oct, 2007: Dr. Salas received prestigious award from the Human Factors society Ed Salas received the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society's 2007 Best Ergonomics in Design Article Award. This award is presented in recognition of his article with Katherine Wilson, C. Shawn Burke, Dennis C. Wightman, and Will R. Howse, "A Checklist for crew resource management training," which was judged the best article in the 2006 volume of Ergonomics in Design. The award was presented at the Opening Plenary Session of the HFES 51st Annual Meeting, Oct 2, 2007. Oct, 2007: Dr. Salas received prestigious award from the Human Factors society Ed Salas received the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society's 2007 Jack A. Kraft Innovator Award, which honors accomplishments in applying the principles of human factors to a new area of endeavor. "This award is presented in recognition of your many cutting-edge accomplishments, and specifically for your research on team performance and training." this was presented at the Opening Plenary Session of the HFES 51st Annual Meeting, October 2.
