October 4, 2004 -- The UCF Student Chapter of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) has been awarded with the Best Student Chapter Award for their many accomplishments in the area of Human Factors Psychology.

The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society was established in the 1950s for the purpose of promoting "the discovery and exchange of knowledge concerning the characteristics of human beings that are applicable to the design of systems and devices of all kinds". The Society is composed of approximately 60 chapters throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe and over 21 technical groups and 5200 members.

The UCF Student Chapter was awarded Best Student Chapter due to its outstanding service to HFES and to the community, at large. The UCF Student Chapter has shown an increase in membership since 2002 by 276 percent. The chapter has "organized a number of events aimed at enriching professional development" such as, professional field trips, hosting esteemed speakers, and organizing socials in the community to cultivate interest in the field.

The UCF Student Chapter was presented the award at the annual HFES Conference in New Orleans in September, 2004 and the students are looking forward to continuing their good work throughout the next academic year. This is a great honor that brings further distinction to the already acclaimed UCF Applied Experimental & Human Factors Psychology Department.
