Professor Gilson joined UCF in 1986 after 14 years on the faculty at Ohio State University. He completed his Ph.D. in psychology at Princeton University and his B.S. in mechanical engineering at the University of Connecticut. Professor Gilson is director of the Ph.D. program in Human Factors and the bulk of his research interests are within that diverse field. He is also the founder and former Director of the Center for Applied Human Factors in Aviation. Current research interests include alerts and warnings, information processing, and simulation and training, particularly as it relates to aerospace vehicles. He also has interests in human/computer interactions and synthetic speech. He has seven (7) U.S. Patents and received UCF's 1995 Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching. Professor Gilson lives on an island, is a qualified Airline Transport Pilot, and enjoys remodeling houses.
