Mark A. Wise, Ph.D.
Title: Usability and Human Factors Consultant
Year started in the program: 1993
Year graduated: 1999
Research interest / Job responsibilities: As a usability and
human factors consultant with IBM Global Services, I work with
closely with software development teams and other usability
professionals to plan, evaluate, and design user interfaces.
Since joining IBM Global Services I have worked on a number
of internal and commercial applications. Currently I am the
lead human factors consultant for the IBM intranet portal (a.k.a., "w3")
and many of IBM's most widely used internal applications. With
over 10 million Web pages and roughly 380,000 IBM users from
around the world, the task to create and test a single user-interface
standard that is flexible enough to accommodate various applications
and simple enough to be used by multiple user groups is a unique
challenge.
Additionally, I am developing a metric that can be used to evaluate and compare
the relevance of search engine query results.
