About Us
the University of Central Florida
As of 2008, UCF is the 6th largest university in the nation in terms of the total number of students, and second largest in terms of number of undergraduate students. We enrolled over 48,000 students in Fall 2007 (approximately 41,000 undergraduate & 7,000 graduate students), and, while our ranks swell, our quality also continues to increase. UCF’s average SAT score for incoming Freshman for Fall 2007 was 1217, and UCF researchers received more than $120 million dollars in funding in 2006-2007.
Of all the departments within the College of Sciences, the Psychology Department is the largest with nearly 2900 majors and 650 minors. It is also one of the leading recipients of research funding. In 2007, the Psychology Department researchers received approximately $800,000 in new funding. Psychology is an extremely broad discipline, and UCF’s Psychology Department has three areas of emphasis: clinical psychology, human factors psychology, and industrial and organizational psychology. It is home to internationally notable faculty including Deborah Beidel, Clint Bowers, Robert Dipboye, Richard Gilson, Peter Hancock, Robert Pritchard, Mark Rapport, and Eduardo Salas.
All members of the department share a common goal, which is reflected in their teaching and research: understanding behavior through empirical investigation. The Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program is nationally accredited through the American Psychological Association (APA). The Applied Experimental and Human Factors Doctoral Program is fully accredited by the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, and, although no national organization accredits programs in industrial and organizational psychology, the Industrial/Organizational Doctoral Program has structured its curriculum and training model to be consistent with guidelines published by the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
